About Paul Bell
Looking back over a musical career spanning 18 years, it's easy to see how Paul has grown. In part that's because his life in music started at the tender age of five. Five and a half to be exact. That Christmas, Paul received his first guitar, and traded in the table tennis bat he had been scratching with his fingernails for the previous 3 years.
New songs soon followed. His first, a ballad simply entitled "Glittering Bluebells" met with wide acclaim, and other hits soon followed - "There was an old man" a particular highlight. Crowds were very encouraging and word began to spread. But there was one thing which seemed destined to put the brakes on a burgeoning solo career - Puberty
As this oh-so-cute little boy began a spotty, sweaty teenager, the "ahhhh"s were less forthcoming. A period of development followed, in many ways, as Paul did some work on his technique, his song craft and tried hard to fix his recently broken voice.
Fast forward to 2006 and Paul is back, with a new set of songs. Having become a versatile and talented guitarist in the intervening years, with a clutch of album credits to his name, it's now time to pick up where glittering bluebells left off. The new songs reflect a lyrical and musical maturity, and explore the issues of life, faith, hope and love.
In the summer of 2006, Paul headed off to dB Studios in Lincoln, where he was joined by James Middleton on drums and Mark Prentice on bass. The tracks went down quickly, and are imbued with a warmth which mirrored the hot weather. Over the weeks that followed, Paul locked himself away in the spare room to add the guitars, keys and vocals. Now mixed, mastered and ready to be released into the wild, Human Conditions is an album 18 years in the making.
Paul is married to the lovely Zoe, and they live in Sheffield.
