Song selection meeting

Uncategorized

I'd forgotten what it's like to make an album. There's something about the process that just seems to occupy the mind even when I should be thinking about something else. If you've never done it, I'm not sure how to explain it.

I'm getting further down the road with it, and tomorrow is one of those 'crunch points' - meeting up with my friend and co-producer, Phil to choose the songs. When I started out on this one I was wondering if I'd have enough stuff, now comes the painful process of choosing the best 10 or 11 out of the 15 or so I have demoed - some have already been rejected, but I quite like most of these.

It's a decision akin to choosing 5 items for breakfast in Debenhams cafe. Some choices are obvious (hash browns, naturally) but some are more difficult (mushroom or grilled tomato, for example).

So tomorrow morning, I shall be the Lord Sugar figure - and three songs will be fired. I've already set them all a contrived and somewhat arbitrary task, and asked Margaret and Nick to follow them around (not Karren, I'm old school) so we'll see what happens when they get into my board room. I'll let you know...

Paul Bell is a stunning talent. He brings laugh out loud humour, brilliant song writing and performance, and quick-on-the-draw spontaneity that audiences love. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
