Coming up
This is first in a series of "song by song" posts about songs on my new album "While we sleep tonight"
Why not have a listen as you read:
For me, the thing I latched onto was the story of hope, and the story of rescue. Even when it seemed like there wasn't a way out, a way was found, and at great cost, an escape route was made.
I was really pleased with the way some of the verse lyrics came on this one - I tried to write about the moment of emergence, and to come up with some evocative phrases:
"Possibility floods my soul like the morning air" - "Bursting into the warm sunshine of a second chance".
Musically, I'd written this song as a double-time thing, and it was Terl's suggestion to try it half time, and it's really grown on me to the point where I can't imagine it working any other way.
Chord-wise, I must have thrown everything at this song (which makes it an interesting one to try live with a band - don't think I've attempted that yet). Some tasty chords in there.
Let me know what you think of the song in the comments below, or on Twitter etc.
And of course, you can go here for downloads and here for CD orders (including CD bundles) if you'd like a copy of the new album.
