Making good

Uncategorized

This was one of the last songs I wrote for the album, and it was probably one of the quickest to write. I should really have been doing something else, but I grabbed my guitar. The house was quiet, and I started strumming this little riff. Pretty soon, I'd recorded the first verse and chorus into my iPhone and the second verse (normally a sticking point when I write a song) seemed to come pretty easily.

For me it's quite an emotional song - it's not about me and my wife, but it's about other friendships that were feeling the strain at the time. Even though on one level, it's about home improvement (at times quite an emotional thing in itself), hopefully people can hear that I'm singing about how we relate to eachother - sometimes we need to say things that may hurt, things may get messy, but if we get it right, things will be better than they ever were, the arguments are smoothed over, and there's a making good that takes place.

Hannah and James supplied some gorgeous harmonies on this one, and as it was the last song we recorded, I had to play shaker and accordion - neither are my strong point, but we got there in the end, and I love the rootsy feel.

And of course, you can go here for downloads and here for CD orders (including CD bundles) if you'd like a copy of the new album.

I like that, I like that very much!
